Printing the Past: South Indian-Inspired Block Patterns

Join us for a creative and relaxing session inspired by the rich textile traditions of South India. We’ll take a closer look at the rhythmic patterns found in Kurinji textiles and the bold, blurred designs of ikat cloths, alongside the striking geometry of temple towns in Tamil Nadu, especially the gopurams (temple towers) with their layered, architectural beauty. Using simple materials like card and string, we'll craft our own printing blocks to make beautiful, repeat patterns, no carving required. This is a welcoming space to explore colour, rhythm, and heritage through printmaking, perfect for beginners and seasoned crafters alike.
